Lady Moscato retired
27 July, 2009.
TOP class staying bitch Lady Moscato has been retired to stud.
Trainer Bob Wright said this today after the daughter of History Lesson-Lady Kero had cracked a hock in her first straight gallop late last week.
The bitch was on the comeback trail after she had split webbing when hot favourite in a 710m race at Albion Park in June.
“She would need three months off for the hock to recover, then another couple of months before she would be ready to race,” said Bob.
“By that time she would be three and a half and the vet suggested she may not come back as good as she was so it was decided to retire her.”
Lady Moscato earned $81,000 for her connections during an outstanding but luckless race career.
She was placed in four Group finals.
She was second in the Group 2 Vince Curry Maiden at Ipswich, and Lizrene Classic at The Meadows, and third in the Group 1 Albion Park Gold Cup and Sandown Cup.
“She had got over the split webbing problem,” said Bob. “I gave her the run up the straight but by the time she was home she was lame.
“X-rays confirmed the crack in the hock.”
Wright said it was likely Lady Moscato would be mated to champion sprinter El Galo when she comes on season.
“It will depend on how many pups she has, but I would think some will be for sale,” he said.
Lady Moscato retires the winner of 18 races with 11 seconds and nine thirds.

MARK Rowe reckons he has to bite on lemons each morning he gets out of bed.
That’s because Mark cannot believe the success he is having with greyhounds.
Mark was planning his next celebration on Thursday night when his star bitch Millennium led throughout to win a 520m Best 8 at Albion Park.
The daughter of Hallucinate-In My Dreams scored by five lengths over her kennelmate Grampian with a head to Stone Cold Sober in third.
Greg Brennan trains both bitches.
Millennium has already won the Group 2 Qld Futurity at Albion Park and her victory on Thursday night took her record to 15 wins and eight placings in 33 starts.
Eleven of those wins have been at Albion Park.
Millennium and her kennelmate Grampian will come back to Albion Park next Thursday night for a tilt at the heats of the Group 1 Winter Carnival Cup.
“Grampian is getting near retirement,” said Greg Brennan.
“The end of the winter will probably see her out.
“At this stage I am even contemplating putting her to our own dog Shadow Boxer.”
Shadow Boxer, one of the fastest dogs in the country, is on the comeback trail after injury.
He is a litter brother to Millennium.
Brennan said Millennium had been knocked down at the start when sixth to Velocette in a heat of the Gold Coast Cup at headquarters last week.
“She was badly boxed tonight, but she got a clear run and that’s all she needed,” said Brennan. “Mark will be organizing the celebration for the trip home.”
Millennium has taken her earnings to more than $50,000 in those 33 starts.

Genista off to Grafton

STAR middle distance galloper Genista Reign will head to the Grafton Stayers Cup next Thursday night.
Trainer Neil Falls said this after the son of Hallucinate-Smokey Whisky led held off Bounding to win a 600m Best 8 at Albion Park on Thursday night.
He scored by a half length in 35.36 with a length and quarter to Texas Ranger in third.
It was Genista Reign’s 16th victory in 52 starts and he has run 19 placings.
“Last week’s run was disappointing,” Falls said of Genista Reign’s sixth to Una Play Boy.
“But he came out slowly and got back in the field. He was coughing on the way home so I think he copped plenty of sand and that was the end of him.”
Falls was happier his dog drew the rails on Thursday night and he bounced back to his best.
Falls ignored the fact his dog was up almost a kilo in weight for this week’s race.
“I felt he was down too much last week and adjusted for it this week,” he said.
Genista Reign is out of a sister to champion Whisky Assassin.
“The dam can’t have any more pups,” said Neil. “But the owners have a half sister to Genista Reign who has a litter of Hallucinate pups that are being broken in now.”
