DENNIS Reid didn’t have to ask twice before Greg Brennan made the trek from South Maclean to Old Bonalbo to pick up his jungle greens.
Jungle Green (Whisky Assassin-Must Command) swept around a Novice (520m) field at Albion Park on Thursday night for an impressive victory.
He scored by three and three-quarter lengths over Genista Dreama with three-quarters to Wild Silence in third in 30.46.
Reid bred and educated Jungle Green but the dog tore a muscle six months ago and needed plenty of time.
“Dennis got him right and then rang me to see if I wanted to train him,” said Greg who ironically had trained the dog’s dam Must Command to great success.
“I didn’t need to be asked twice and was on Dennis’ doorstep in a rush.”
Brennan said Jungle Green was about ready to race when he picked him up so he didn’t waste time and put him into a maiden at the Gold Coast which he won.
“In hindsight, I probably should have waited for the Eric Thomson series at the coast,” said Greg. “But hindsight is a wonderful thing.”
Jungle Green was never out of trouble last week when unplaced in a Novice behind Genista Thunder but made amends from a wide box this week.
“I’ll take him back to the coast and run him through his grades,” said Greg.
Brennan last week lost his star staying bitch Kath’s A Star who pulled up with a sore wrist when second in a 710m and was retired by owner Val Ignatenko.
But he has also picked up Dark Marne, another of Reid’s smart gallopers, who is a finalist in the Capalaba Futurity on Saturday.
“Dennis is hoping a few runs up Capalaba will get her coming out better,” said Brennan who on Wednesday at the Gold Coast won with $40 chance Sweet Surrender.

DERBY DOUBLE FOR DISORDERLY

8 May, 2008.
BRILLIANT Disorderly will have a double Derby aim within the next two months.
Owner Kevin Martin said this of the son of Whisky Assassin-Must Command after his impressive 520m 4th-5th Grade win at Albion Park on Thursday night.
He scored by two and a half lengths over Run Jake Run with a length to Spirit Squad in third in a fast 30.17.
It was his 10th win in 19 starts for the Neil Falls trained galloper. Falls had earlier won with Genista Thunder.
Disorderly is on the comeback trail after hurting a fibula during the National Derby series at Wentworth Park early in the year.
“He had trialled under the track record for 420m at Lismore before he went to the Derby at Wentworth Park and we naturally thought he would go close to winning,” said Martin.
“But he went terrible and then came back to Lismore and went terrible again. It was then that Neil found the fibula break.”
The dog was given four weeks off but an x-ray found it had only healed half way. He was given another four weeks before being put back into work.
He has been impressive in three Gold Coast wins since his return.
Immediate plans are for the dog to be flown to WA on Saturday.
“He will slip post to post at Cannington then run in a graded race there on Saturday week,” said Martin. “The big track over there will really suit him.”
Then Falls will fly over to Perth to handle his dog in the heats of the WA Derby on May 24. The final will be run on May 31.
“Then we will bring him back home with the (Group 2) Qld Derby as his target,” said Martin.
“With his pedigree and obvious ability, I believe he has a stud career in the future and a Group win will top that off.”
Disorderly is unbeaten in two starts at Albion Park.
He ran 30.17 also in the other win and both victories have been from middle boxes.

PETER MOSMAN NEXT

8 May, 2008.
IMPRESSIVE Albion Park Novice winner Genista Thunder will be aimed at the up-coming Peter Mosman Memorial at Wentworth Park.
Owner Dennis Mitchell said this after the son of Hallucinate-Smokey Whisky had scored an all-the-way win in 30.31 at his debut on the track scoring by two and three-quarter lengths.
He downed Izy Ablaze with three-quarter lengths to Too Puzzled in third.
The winner ran 5.74 first section which broke up the field and set up his win.
The Mitchell family, Dennis and his wife Sharon and his parents Rod and Narelle, bred and race the dog with youthful trainer Neil Falls.
He had been a brilliant 30.05 Mega Maiden heat winner at Wentworth Park in March but hurt a toe when unplaced in a semi-final.
“He’s always shown plenty of ability,” said Dennis. “We gave him a short break after the Wentworth Park race.
“We thought he could win tonight and were very happy to get $3.10 about him.”
The family flew up from their 30-acre property at Ouorrobolong which is near Cessnock and will fly home in the morning (Friday).
“We bought his mother Smokey Whisky, a half sister to Whisky Assassin, after she had raced and won seven races,” said Dennis.
“She was a handy bitch who had the misfortune of racing Irinka Barbie during her career.”
The bitch has been a prolific producer of winners for the Mitchell family who race all their dogs with the Genista prefix. Genista is the name of the family property.
“We have a litter by Go Wild Teddy out of Smokey Whisky but she has finished as a broodbitch, but we have her daughter Genista Wild in pup to Hallucinate,” said Dennis.
The Mitchells and trainer Falls have a huge opinion of Genista Thunder.
“He is only young and has a lot of improvement in him,” said Dennis.
“We also have a couple of brothers to him called Genista Rain and Genista Dreamer and they will win races as well.”
The Mitchells breed and rear all their own dogs on the 30-acre property and Falls trains 90 percent of them.
“My wife Sharon does all the work with them at home,” said Dennis.
