Dosses Angel (Royal Assassin x Proper Angel) went a long way towards vindicating trainer Jim Whiticker's bold move in quitting his job when she scored an upset win in Saturday night's second _ and strongest _ heat of the group three Chairman's Cup.
Dosses Angel, which Whiticker trains for the Bigger Than Life Syndicate, was sent out the rank outsider of the field yet staved off a late challenge from the experienced Shireen's Habit to win the WP event in a slick 42.88sec.
Whiticker's blue bitch has now won each of her two 20m starts.
After Saturday's race he commented: "When she won first up on August 29 she wasn't at her best.
"She had lost a bit of weight during a campaign in Brisbane so I was happy with her first up 720 win, even though she only clocked 43.47.
"Greyhounds are sometimes flat after winning first up so I next took her to Richmond for a middle distance race, where she ran second to a top notcher in Royal Riddle.
"I knew she would run a big race in the Chairman's Cup because of the way she trialled during the week.
"The best she has run over the short course at Glengarrie had been 24.20 but Dosses Angel got under the 24 mark on Tuesday.
"I now have four greyhounds in work but plan to increase my team now that I have quit my job as a concreter with a large company.
"I'll still do a bit of private concreting work but I wanted more time to devote to my greyhounds.''
Whiticker, 40, trains out of Jamisontown, near Penrith.
"I used to be Jack Dawson's strapper but really started off in the sport working for Tony Reilly at his trial track out at Werombi,'' Whiticker said.
