WINSOME History, (History Lesson x Winsome Dollars) who went within a tick of the Bulli 472m record in winning a maiden heat at Bulli last Wednesday, may be retired in the near future.
The dog contests the maiden final this week at the track, but trainers John and Minnie Finn remain concerned about the dog's "problem foot.''
Minnie Finn said at WP on Saturday: "Winsome History smashed two toes on the same foot at Richmond early in his career and they are still worrying him terribly.
"He pulls up lame after every race, and when he won his maiden heat, even though he ran very fast time, you could see the foot worrying him as he lost ground on the first turn.
"Unless the foot somehow miraculously comes good, I think John will retire him to stud in the not too distant future.''

ANNE Green, who teaches English and history at a south coast high school and is also among Australia's top-rated snooker players, was in a different role at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Anne, decked out in a dinner suit after coming direct from a championship snooker match, was jubilant after watching Spice Magic, a greyhound she bred, lead throughout for her second WP win.

Spice Magic is a daughter of History Lesson x Waterloo Magic, who was a Wentworth Park winner and is the dam, from a previous litter, of the smart performer Freight Man.
A good Wenty winner, Freight Man is still winning races in WA.

"Spice Magic did well to win from box seven tonight because she is the best railer you'll ever see,'' Green said after the greyhound's WP win.

And Ann Makin, whose daughter Tracey Bryant trains Spice Magic, advised punters to wait for that greyhound's litter sister Pep Magic to draw an inside box.

"She is only a little 24 kilo bitch and just can't draw a box,'' Makin said on Saturday night.
"At her past two Wenty races she has run third from boxes four and six but is going well and should win a race or two at Wenty if she can draw near the inside.''

DOSSES ANGEL JUSTIFIED JIM'S BOLD MOVE

Dosses Angel (Royal Assassin x Proper Angel) went a long way towards vindicating trainer Jim Whiticker's bold move in quitting his job when she scored an upset win in Saturday night's second _ and strongest _ heat of the group three Chairman's Cup.

Dosses Angel, which Whiticker trains for the Bigger Than Life Syndicate, was sent out the rank outsider of the field yet staved off a late challenge from the experienced Shireen's Habit to win the WP event in a slick 42.88sec.
Whiticker's blue bitch has now won each of her two 20m starts.

After Saturday's race he commented: "When she won first up on August 29 she wasn't at her best.

"She had lost a bit of weight during a campaign in Brisbane so I was happy with her first up 720 win, even though she only clocked 43.47.
"Greyhounds are sometimes flat after winning first up so I next took her to Richmond for a middle distance race, where she ran second to a top notcher in Royal Riddle.

"I knew she would run a big race in the Chairman's Cup because of the way she trialled during the week.

"The best she has run over the short course at Glengarrie had been 24.20 but Dosses Angel got under the 24 mark on Tuesday.

"I now have four greyhounds in work but plan to increase my team now that I have quit my job as a concreter with a large company.

"I'll still do a bit of private concreting work but I wanted more time to devote to my greyhounds.''

Whiticker, 40, trains out of Jamisontown, near Penrith.

"I used to be Jack Dawson's strapper but really started off in the sport working for Tony Reilly at his trial track out at Werombi,'' Whiticker said.

ANXIOUS WAIT FOR JEFF
Courtesy GRAQ website - David Brasch - 1 September, 2005.
TRAINER Jeff Jones will burst out of bed first thing on Friday morning to check on Kilkivan Crow.

The dog limped off Albion Park on Thursday night after staging an outstanding performance to win a 520m 3rd-4th Grade in 30.40.

Kilkivan Crow (Royal Assassin-Crowea) ran down early leader Revelation to win by two and a half lengths with a half head to Nice Portrait rattling home to get third.

Jones reported Kilkivan Crow was badly checked at the start and again at the first turn.

“The checks probably cost him .2 in the race so it was a great effort for him to win in 30.40,” said Jones.

The concern for Jones is that his dog may not get to the boxes for next Tuesday night’s Lismore Cup heats.

“He was very proppy in the near side hind leg coming off the track,” said Jones.
“But what a good dog he is and what a great chaser after getting into that trouble and still winning while carrying an injury.”

Jones said he would have Kilkivan Crow checked out immediately Friday morning.

“He wasn’t putting a lot of weight on the leg coming off the track.”
Kilkivan Crow has won six races from 18 starts and was perfectly boxed in the rails.

“For some reason at Albion Park, and he doesn’t do it on any other track, he jumps to the right at Albion Park,” said Jones.

“That’s probably why he hurt himself.”
